Steering Set Up

Post by Harry Pyle » Fri Jun 28, 2002 7:10 pm

When all else fails..."read the manual". The only way to assemble the steering link ends are as per the manual..see page 21 "Steering ball joints". This gives the correct order of assembling balls, cups, springs and plugs. If they are not assembled correctly you can get a situation where the spring at one end is working in the wrong direction as the other. This can be dangerous if done incorrectly...as already noted by some members. In all the miles I have done with TC2446 we have never had our balls pop out....nor have we worn them out. Proper set up..regular greasing and they will virtually last forever. (it is old technology..and the manual recommends fresh grease every 500 miles !!!) Safety Fast....hope this helps. G'day Badger.. Your reserved reply to Harry speaks volumes, similarly, your restraint does you great credit sir! I have had the very great pleasure of sharing the odd jar with Harry and feel I know when this bloke is having a quiet lend of everyone. Whether by sheer accident or (as I suspect) your superior intellect, I feel you have also tuned into imagining Harry's pained expression as he described the excruciating experienceof ' popping one's balls out'. However, his claims of 'never wearing them out' I feel should be attributed to the brashness usually associated with our fellow Aussies who live in the frontier country of our great west. Just keep 'em hitched up outa the dirt harry... hurts like hell otherwise! 'Reddo (One of the wise men from the East!)(minus camel... but with TC)
