Straight front axle

Post by George Cheney » Fri Jun 21, 2002 8:07 am

Success! The axle's back in shape and new spindles installed. I wanted to pass on the good sources of help. I didn't mention that the bent axle was discovered when removing the front spindles for crack testing. Took these to Tygor Labs.,Inc.,79 Eastern Steel Road,Milford,CT 06460, 203 877-9390. Bob Bateman gave me same day service and found both cracked. They mainly do aircraft parts with a minimum charge of $40. Called Dave Raymond in Redding, CT (ad in the NEMGTR's "TSO") Dave offered to help. He had a set of stub spindles and proceded to bend the axle back in shape while I took the spindles and stubs to Phil Laiacona's Abbingdon Tool Ltd. in Bridgeport, CT (also "TSO" ad). They gave me one day turnaround. So all was fixed by 2:00 PM Wed. Phil's Tickford won it's class at Amelia Isl. Concours this year. so I was in good hands. Thanks to all who offered suggestions.
