Ive a nice set of later XPAG rods here with non standard
Oversized but rather nice Big End Bolts.
They are 11/32 inch Diameter and 24 tpi and 6 bolts have FC
marked on the heads (one has CP another 5).
Are these recognisable to anyone?
I know there have been efforts successfully made to fit other
trustable big end bolts from modern production cars etc so
any lore about non standard sized Big End Bolts welcomed

is currently in my TC we used aircraft quality grade 8
bolts with the head ground down to fit the TC rods
that we used. We used modified MGB lock tabs for the
nuts. We have many thousands of miles on the TC since
including a trip to England for the G.R.A.B 98 tour.
Just came back from a trip to Palm Springs California
At times we were over 70 mph on the freeway. No

I have used MGB con rod bolts from 18v motors, larger diameter and nice
shoulder to align the cap on, have to ream out holes and resize the rod, look
out for holes to close to the bore of rod as bolt will have a nick taken out
of it.

I've had Ford 289 rod bolts in my TD for 25 years. They already have
flats on both sides of the head. You have to carefully trim one side a
little more to get them to fit. I did the triming with small cut off
wheel in a Dremel tool. If you use a grinder you run the risk of
overheating the bolt. I also used the matching self locking nuts.
These bolts have a slightly reduced diameter just under the head to
reduce the potential of a crack developing in this area.

Recently I stated I was using rod bolts out of a Ford 289 engine. That
was in ERROR. The bolts are out of a Datsun 510, part number
12109-B3000 which of course would be 8 mm. I had another full box of 10
on my spare parts shelves. My brother helped rebuild the engine and was
a Datsun mechanic at the time so I should have known. Perhaps it was
the Ford's valve stem seals which he used.
