TC Carpet Questions

Post by Charles Hill » Mon Apr 29, 2002 8:40 pm

I know TC carpets were discussed a few months ago, in fact I went back and looked over the thread and also read through TCs Forever but I still have several questions. I bought a Moss carpet kit and am trying to install it in TC 7387. When I bought the car, it had a totally unoriginal interior. My other car, TC 0857, didn't have any interior installed. So I have absolutely nothing to go by as an example. First, I'm not overly impressed with the MOSS kit. It seems to be adequate, though. The carpets are almost right, but will need considerable trimming. It came with 5 lift-the-dot fasteners and 5 hidden stud fasteners. I suspect that is not enough. The instructions sheet doesn't have much detail. Only says the prop shaft tunnel carpet goes under the floorboards and the front carpets overlap the rear carpets. No other details. My questions: Should the prop shaft tunnel carpet go under the floorboards? Or would it be better to trim it off and glue it on above the floor boards? If I put it under the floor boards, do I still need to glue it down? Anyone have any idea of how many fasteners there are and where they are located? I count at least 7 lift-the-dot studs on the metal foot ramp. I have absolutely no idea about the rest of the fasteners. I remember seeing a diagram of how the rear carpets have an L shaped cutout for the seat track mounts. Anyone know where I can find it again? Regards, Charles Hill

Charles, I had to hand fit and cut every section of the Moss carpet set. I called Moss and they sent me updated instruction (Instruction Sheet #980-148 05/01) which were better than the instructions I originally got. I also had them send me additional lift dots and snaps. BTW< they were happy to help! There should be 6 lift dits and 4 hidden snaps. I also used an additional 2 hidden snaps to mount the carpet on the rear deck. I'll send you a copy of the new instructions if you would like. The tunnel carpet goes under the floor boards and is also glued to the tunnel. Go to page 230 of the TC Forever book. The top diagram provides the measurement for the "L" slits for the seat tracks. ONE WORD OF ADVICE: Don't just start cutting based on the measurements shown in the book. Fit the carpet according to the location of the seat tracks in your car - your actual measurements will be different than what the book shows. The book is good for showing the type of slits and approximate location. I'm still trying to get my car running correctly. I've tried everything. I'm about ready to sell this car and move to another hobbie like fishing! Mark Stolzenburg ________________________________________________ PeoplePC: It's for people.
