Drop arm and grag link question

Post by Davidtasa@aol.com » Mon Apr 29, 2002 2:04 pm

Dear Listers, I recently purchased one of the new reinforced drop arms from Moss UK. While installing it, I noticed that it appears to be different from the old one and the only way I can mount it seems to be upside down. The old one was mounted with the drag link end underneath the drop arm with the castelated nut on top. I've installed the new one the same way even though it looks like it should be the other way around. There is not enough clearance under the sump to mount the drag link end on top - I don't see any other way that it could be installed and still work. Everything seems to work fine but according to the pictures in the catalog, the drag link end should be mounted on top of the drop arm with the castelated nut on the underside, which on my car won't clear the sump. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? David TC 3896 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The early original drop arms were straight and around TC 5039 or so they switched to one that angled down a bit (possibly to give more clearance from the sump) according to Sherrell. Mine bends down and the ball joint post with the taper shaft mounts with the nut on top. Drag link mounts underneath and catches water. Don't know what your replacement arm looks like but hopefully the taper hole was put in the correct direction. David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California
