Rear Axle Gears

Post by Viv James TraX Interconnect (Pty.) Ltd » Fri Apr 26, 2002 1:46 am

We are busy preparing my Roger Furneax 4.61 cwp for my black TC and have a problem: Inside the CWP cage, there are 4 gears (spider) plus 2 gears (sun?) that are splined to accept the 1/2 shafts. These sun gears slide into the cage assembly. I have a cage with sun gears about 33mm dia on the bearing surface and one is missing. I got hold of another sun gear also from a TC but it is much larger and of course does not fit. I never heard of different sizes here - can anyone explain? And has anyone got a spare smaller gear? Are you sure you have a TC Diff. in there Viv? Roger just did mine (and a good job he did too) but it turned out to be a Morris ten diff, and not a TC one. I believe that the only real difference between the two is on the pinion size, though I am sure that Roger will chime in and put us right, so I don't expect you have a M 10 diff. However I was wondering if any others would fit? Ian Thomson. -----------------

I do know that the cwp from this assembly was 5.125:1 which is standard TC. Have not heard from Roger yet. Viv Are you sure you have a TC Diff. in there Viv? Ian, Viv, Roger and all, Thank goodness! I thought I was the only person in the history of the universe to have a dodgy diff! Same symptoms; TC halfshafts fit like a glove, one filler hole but on the other side, MOWOG cast everywhere, etc., etc. This unit was on the car when I got her in '63 and though the ratios escape me at present I always assumed that it was something to do with the 16" rears on the old girl.
