Windshield Seal

I have asked this question on the MGTD site but I haven't received an answer so I will ask it here. I am trying to replace the seal around the windshield glass (Moss #280-300). How do I fit/position the seal over the wiper spacers that are in the glass slot? The PO did not use the correct seal and the spacers were rubbing directly on the glass. I think there should be some protection so the glass won't break. I am guessing that the TC is the same as it uses the same seal listed in the Moss Catalog. Don TD #17700
