David, I would fit extra kingpin shims on TOP of the axle beam. Use only the brass thrust washer below. You don't want any additional wear surfaces on the load side, so shims go on top. Try for 0.002" -0.005" vertical clearance on the steering knuckle with the axle loaded ( book says 0.004" but I don't think its critical).
