In checking the K & N catalog, I find only one 4" diameter round filter listed. E-4310. It is 2 3/8" ID, and 2 3/4" in height. Should work fine, as there is only a 1" opening for air intake in TC cannister. A spacer, or inner ring stop, could be made, to hold the filter at the top of the cannister aligned with the air intake openings. John Seim Irvine, CA

How would you open one of these cannisters to install a new filter? Mine appears to be made like a tin can - surely you wouldn't use a can opener would you? Thanks, Gene

A large diameter spring would work to hold it up. There are some at the hardware store, surely. Best, Ray

Gene I think that this refers to the reproduction canisters which have cast aluminium top and bottom plates. By unscrewing the nut at the top of the canister these plates can be pulled out of the canister. The interior is a simple cylindrical space. The original ones have a more complicated interior containing what looks like a reactive silencer. I have a reproduction canister which was filled with domestic quality steel wool. The wool was rusted and disintegrating - not good stuff to be breathing into the engine. I removed the wool and replaced it with an oil-filled foam element similar to those used over the venturi intakes on some racers. If anyone's interested I can provide details. Thanks Mark, I had gathered that there must have been two different types of cannisters - I examined mine carefully and knew it was sealed completely. Gene
