Perhaps the confusion is over the word "differential"? I believe the ex-colonials rather quaintly refer to it as some sort of fruit (or is a pumpkin a vegetable?). Peter, you're confusing "differential" with "synchromesh". The TC transmission (gearbox) has synchromesh only on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. The differential is the gearing in the rear axle that allows the two rear wheels to rotate at different speeds. The "4 star" people have been talking about refers to the cross and bevel gears in the center of the differential. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G.
