TC Maker and Guarantee plates

Looking for some help, please
The maker, guarantee and Made in England plates should be nickle plated, I
believe, but the ones available from Moss and Abingdon Spares are brass,
not nickle plated. About 10 -12 years ago, there was a source in the UK
called Classic Reproductions, but I think they were taken over by Moss.
I can use the rather tatty original plates with a bit of the silver still
showing, but it would be nice to clean up TC 6391 with its new paintwork.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Cheers!

I would try to reuse the originals if at all possible, at least they are genuine and their obvious age is at least honest. Few people seem to have the original body plates so it would be a pity not see them where they belong attesting to the age of the car. I nearly made the same mistake with the windscreen "Auster" plate thinking that as it is in full view it must look as good as the rest of the car. Luckily the the modern repros. were so bad that I stuck with the original. I did not have the original underbonnet plates which you have but I would have stuck with the originals if I could have.

I plan to tart up my original plates with brush-on or wipe-on silver plate,
followed by matte lacquer.

Terry,
A few months back, one of the TABC members reported at some length about
using one of the "do-it-yourself " plating kits. I think he got it from
Eastwood Co., who advertise regularly in Hemmings Motor News, and he was
pleased with the results for applications which did not require ultimate
"show-quality" plating.

I'm sorry that I can't give you good answer to that question, Terry.
An internet search will turn up lots of the brush-on kits, but that's
serious overkill just to plate the plates.
I saw copper bus-bars being plated by dipping a cloth in a paste and rubbing
on. Very quick and easy, and the results looked to me to be very similiar to
the small areas of nickel (?) plating left on my TC plates. However, the
only commercial product I know of is "Cool-Amp" at $140.00 U.S. for a one
pound bottle, also gross overkill.
I intend to make up a small quantity of the paste myself. The formula is
very simple, but this is getting rather off-topic.Anyone wanting to carry
this further is welcome to contact me off-list.

Any plating shop that plates chrome, plates nickel under the chrome, and
should be willing to plate your plate at a very minimal cost. If you decide
to try one of the home plating recipes, be sure to try it on a test piece of
similar material first.
Nickel is much easier to plate on than to remove!

Why not simply Nickle plate them - it is easy to do, here in the UK kits are
sold containg all you need. All early automobiles used Nickle on the bright
parts rather than chromium, because it prevents steel from rusting, unlike
Cr which is so thin it is porous. Any commercial plating shop could do them
for pennies.
