Victoria's TC

Victoria, Have you checked the chassis frame for the ID #? It should read xxxxEXU if it is one. This stamp is located on the left side at the very front just behind the front cross member. The title is also someplace to look for the EXU designation. These practices of course vary wildly. Your front bumper appears to be identical to mine (an EXU) except the MG plinth was on the rear bumber on my car and your's is missing the overriders. The headlamps on the EXUs were 7" not 8". The dash should also provide some clues since the EXUs were fitted with turn signals. Also fitted was a scuttle mounted rear view mirror ( between the 2 humps) check for a hole there. Two books that provide a wealth of info on TC variations are; The T Series Handbook (The New England T Register) and MG T Series Restoration Guide. Bottom line - Enjoy the car. Hmmm. Does the number stamped on the chassis of a TC/EXU actually include the "EXU". It has been a very long time since I've worked with a TC/EXU, but my recollection is that the "EXU" is found only on the maker's plate. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. Her car is not an EXU. Her chassis number is 5853 and the first EXU was 7380. The EXU is not stamped into the chassis. Its only on the maker's plate. All TCs except the few sold in England had the "Made in England" plate. The front bumper looks like an EXU rear bumper without the overriders. I note that the car has California plates. I understand that when the TCs were new, bumpers were required in California. I vaguely remember seeing an old picture of a group of TCs in California on an outing. They all had bumpers of one kind or another fitted. As for the rest, I recommend that she get a copy of TCs Forever. I'm sure it will answer most of her questions.
