TC instrument color

With all the talk about instrument colors has anyone had any luck changing the color of an instrument? All of mine are the green color but the tachometer, that is the silver gray type. I thought that it may be possible to tint the glass or the face of the dial. I ordered decal from Moss but they don,t look very good. I thought that if I could find some stain, dye or paint that is transparent that I could air brush on, and not cover the numbers up. Yes I know that I can send it in to be redone but that takes all the fun out of it.
