Fw: virus alert please regard as urgent (fwd)

Post by wwcordin » Sat Dec 22, 2001 5:49 pm

I received the message being forwarded to you. Checking my computer I found the virus. Please check yours because your address was in my address book. Walter W. Cordin . . PLEASE ACT ON THIS IMMEDIATELY Dear Friends, I received a virus from someone because I was in their address book. You are in my address book and YOU MAY HAVE THIS VIRUS HIDING ON YOUR HARD DRIVE. IT LIES DORMANT FOR 14 DAYS AND THEN KILLS YOUR HARD DRIVE. STOP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW AND TAKE 10 SECONDS TO DELETE THE VIRUS FILE. (FOLLOWING ARE DIRECTIONS TO DO THIS) If you've got it, send this information to everyone in your address book. The directions for removing it: * Go to 'start' - then to 'find or search' (depending on your computer) * In the 'search for files or folders' type in sulfnbk.exe -- this is the virus. * In the 'look in' make sure you're searching Drive C. * Hit 'search' button (or find) * If this file shows up (it's an ugly blackish icon that will have the name 'sulfnbk.exe') * DO NOT OPEN IT * RIGHT click on the file - go down to delete and left click. * It will ask you if you want to send it to the recycle bin, say yes. * Go to your desktop (where all your icons are) and double click on the recycle bin. * Right click on sulfnbk.exe and delete again - or empty the bin.
>
REMEMBER: If you find it send this email to all the people in your address book, because that's how it's transferred.

This is a hoax! The file "sulfnbk.exe" is a valid part of the Windows operating system. For more info, including what to do if you deleted "sulfnbk.exe" without bothering to confirm the validity of the "virus warning", see: http://www.f-secure.com/hoaxes/sulfnbk.shtml
