half shafts

A query for the collective wisdom! I recently had both half shafts out to change diffs. I noticed that the off side oil slinger was missing and subsequently found it (unusable!) in the bottom of the diff casing. I replaced the slinger and on replacing the half shaft discovered that it would not pass through the same. I tried an older half shaft which did pass through, so clearly different diameters and the reason that the slinger was in the diff casing; the P O had obviously been there and knocked the slinger out in the attempt to locate the half shaft. Both shafts fit into the diff carrier though one obviously slightly snugger than the other. On checking previous receipts I concluded that the half shaft purchased in '98 from N T G was the offending item. Question - is there a move to a slightly greater diameter and thus stronger shafts, then dispensing with the slinger or reaming it out, or is this shaft a rogue item? Has any one else had a similar experience? Regards Tony TC 9825

Tony, When I replaced my slingers, I had to ream 'em out to fit the half shafts - and they were the original ones. Gene

Listers, Are the half shafts for the TA, TB, and TC the same? I believe they are but want to make sure before I answer a question about them. Gene, As TATerrry says, TA, TB, TC axles are all the same. I have supplied my tapered half shafts to TA, TB and TC owners, no problem. I think the only difference in pre-war sports MG axles was in the length of shaft due to different rear tracks. I have supplied my tapered axles to a J2 owner ( who had to shorten then on the inside ). N types have the same track as T types so I expect the axles to be the same for N and TC. Half shafts

Hi all, After many years of T Type driving have broke a half shaft! In the bleak N Yorks moors. Question is can the broken piece be removed safely without removing the CW+P? New shafts and hubs have only done approx. 5thou. miles. Will be taking bits off to-night. Regards, Ron Benson [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Half shafts

Ron, I can supply half shafts in EN24T for 32.50 each and rear hubs for 54. Check out these prices and you will find that, almost certainly, they can t be beaten. Also bear in mind that I don t charge for pressing into the hub. Heavy duty rear hub bearings with 2 dust shields are also stocked at 30 each.
