one thing I haven't seen on this list yet is a Charnock poem....since its about that time of year, here is one: O.P. "Oil pressure at two thousand, hot, is forty pounds or so, And if it is not forty pounds, your motor will not go." Thus spake the learned makers in their clever little book, And so, at that small instrument, I seldom dare to look. Sometimes on biting winter morn, when bitter frost abides, The needle crawls to shaky ten, then sleepily subsides; Oh clueless clot though I may be, is not this car a hero, Have we not gone ten thousand miles, oil pressure, hot, at zero? G'Day Terry! Yes I'm a fan of Charnock also. Can I share one of my favourites with you.. Just in case there's some grump about to chastise us for diverging from things Octagonal, I've made one or two discreet changes to the original: "AUTO PROSE" Divine Aroma: So Castrol 'R' is back in pungent glory, Nostalgic, oleaginous and sweet, And half an hour at Winton or Wakefield Park Shall set your jaded nose upon its feet. It's supercharged M.G.'s and belt-drive Nortons, It's Eastern Creek in September as well, and mucking up a perfectly good engine just to get the golden glory of 'The Smell'. The savour of burnt almonds is perfectly now wedded to a castor base at last, The thin blue haze makes mirages in the sunshine To conjure up paddocks of the past. And when you point your bonnet to Valhalla To learn anew the old enthralling game, As you change-up just beyond the Spiral Nebulae, What else is strange, 'The Smell' will be the same! Hi Terry, I also have the Collected Motor Verses by W.H.Charnock. Great motoring poems but tough book to find, anybody got a spare copy? . But I did repeat this same O.P. poem here on this list last year (( or was it earlier this year) when we were talking about oil pressures.. Bob Grunau one thing I haven't seen on this list yet is a Charnock poem....since its about that time of year, here is one: O.P.
