Upper Tank Strap Bolts

Post by Rick Starkweather » Thu Nov 15, 2001 7:46 am

In trying to remove my "petrol" tank last night (I have a leak somewhere), I found that when I tried to loosen the acorn nuts on the top strap bolts, the bolts just turned. Is there a way to get at the bolt heads on the inside of the body tub? Or is there a captive nut or similar? I cannot get at it from the "trunk" or from inside the side screen compartment. I have scoured all of the restoration books (Green, Sherrell, Schach ) to no avail. Help!!!

Re: [mg-tabc] Upper Tank Strap Bolts Rick The original detail has the tank strap bolts exposed on the inside with large washers. If yours are concealed it would seem that the best course of action would be to remove the vinyl, undo the bolts and then replace both as original. This is well illustrated in TCs forever on page221 Regards Tony TC9825
