Pete: It is my opinion that if the engine was not run, and you opened it up. YOu should not have to replace the rings. The cyl walls should be lubed only with motor oil, and use the usual run in procedures. The fact that is has been sitting is not a problem. There is no acid build up. I rebuilt 3 XPAG engines in the early eighties and did not use them until '97 and had no problem with them. Carlyle Merritt
