Racing TC for sale

Post by David and Joyce Edgar » Tue Oct 30, 2001 5:27 pm

Dick, I am not familiar with the 48 EXU racing TC you mention below but I bet some of the other So. Cal members would. How about it Doug Pulver, Mike Goodman, Pete Thelander, Ron Simon, or anyone else? These fellows have a broader knowledge of area TC's and a couple are or have been on the racing circuit. I bet someone out there knows. David Edgar, TC5108 El Cajon, California At 7:27 PM -0500 10/30/01, MGVADICK@aol.com wrote:

Just for the record, there were no EXU TC's in '48. EXU's were only made in late '49. It would be interesting if anyone has chassis or motor numbers for this car. Ron Simon David and Joyce Edgar wrote:

Actually, TC/EXU production began in late 1948.

Harvey Schnaer, fountain of knowledge and wazir, told me there was a guy in San Fernando Valley who used to specialize in modifying TCs when they were new. Bobbing fenders, chopping up hoods and belting them was his specialty ;-( Harv says he was across the street from another old time car guy, Tony Nancy. Trigger anything in anyone's mind?

Tony Nancy, one of the greatest auto upholsterers of all time! Both his 1929 Ford roadsters, Hot Rod Magazinecover story cars are restored, and living in New England. Both have won AACA first place awards. One, the later Buick powered car also won the AACA Past Presidents Cup. High end Ferraris are now the mainstay of his work. After my last post I realized that some may not know that Tony Nancy, was a drag racer. Both his restored cars were state of the art when built, and the restorations reflect that today. They may still be on loan to the Petersen Museaum in L.A.. Bob TC4956

This modifier of the early days sounds like it may have been Jan Verbeisen on Ventura Blvd. .. also the founder of the infamous Octagonal but fictional MG Museum of the '70's or '80's. On second thought, however, Harvey would have surely remembered him.

I would to hear "the rest of the story" regarding that proposed museum...whatever happened? Bob McKarney wrote:

To any who were curious: In the 1970s, Jan Verbeisen (along with his father and sometimes his brother)ran a restoration shop in Studio City, CA. He did own an ex-racing TC, but he didn't have anything to do with its construction nor did he ever actually race it. I did see him drive it to a meeting of the California MG T Register. The museum was just a grand idea. He did hold a ground breaking at the family "ranch" in Canyon Country north of Los Angeles, complete with the local English Consulate. He did publish two issues of the museum's own magazine. But nothing beyond those ceremonial first shovels of dirt ever materialized. Unfortunately, he had a tendency to find new projects and tear them apart faster than he could put them back together. He had a particular liking for Tickfords - large and small. At one time he owned three TAs, two SAs and a WA, plus VA and WA saloons. He died some 6 or 8 years ago. Pete Thelander

Pete: He got money from me and a lot of others. The crook just took the money and ran. The museum was a scam. Skip.................................................. At 05:10 PM 11/1/01 -0800, Pete Thelander wrote:
