uprating brakes

Has anyone in the group uprated the brakes of a T type such as front discs etc. I have a project at the moment that needs to improve the stopping power of a T in todays traffic so that anyone who is used to driving the modern box can have the same confidence of stopping. I personally have had no problem of stopping a T type but i need to get this sorted. Machine work on parts is no problem but they must be in current production relatively inexpensive and be able to be sourced in the uk. Many thanks David Darrell TA 0455/ 0749

David,
First make sure brake and master cyliners are in fine working order.
Next put on some soft brake linings. That should do wonders. If you
need more stopping power add some Alfins or 240Z drums. You can then
lay some rubber down if you stomp on the pedal. Of course for
maximum braking you wouldn't want to skid the tires so your braking
limit is more with the tires than the brakes then.

Apologies to Badger but adding a brake booster is fairly easy on the
TC...there is room to mount it where the battery ought to be but on the TA it
might be a little more difficult....I have a "how to" around here some
where....

Hi T-Typers,
Here are some questions about brakes:
1. Have anyone a good / cheap source for Datsun Z240 brake drums (new or
used) in Europe / Germany?
2. Have anyone a description how to modify the front axle brake system
to a two-zylinder brake system?
Thanks, lozi (TC3762)

G'day Iozi,
I've seen a couple of neat conversions on TC front brakes whereby the
backing plate and cylinders from a Wolseley 4/44 are used. This gives you
the twin-leading shoe arrangement which is very effective. Certainly less
ugly and obvious than the 240z brake drums, plus the 'mechanics' of the
system are improved considerably.
There's a few careful re-drilling of holes needed plus welding-up of holes
no longer needed. It's desireable to alter the bleed nipple position also,
in order to be able to more effectively bleed the system.
I can supply more details off-line so we don't bore everyone.
Biggest problem: Just where to find an old donor Wolseley these days!

Hi Jeff,
Not sure what Wolseley front back plates look like, are they the same as MG
TD? I have plenty of TD back plates and brake parts if anyone has a burning
desire for twin leading shoe TD front brakes.

Hi Terry,
I'm just 'catching up' on my e-mails and ask your help.
WHAT IS A BRAKE BOOSTER?
Please excuse my ignorance!

Malcom a Brake Booster is a device to give you power assisted brakes, many British cars used them, Austin Healey 3000 MK3, XKE Jaguars etc. You can buy units today by Lockheed that allow you to cut into your main hydraulic line out of the master cylinder and you go into the booster and than out to the system and you also tap into the inlet manifold for the vacuum, which provides the power for boost. If you check out the various Mini suppliers in England I am sure they sell them, they are sort of universal fitting. I am putting one on my Morris 1000 to go along with the disc brakes.
