On group or off group conversations?

Hello all! I have been making it a habit to respond off group to all the nice responses I have received from fellow enthusiasts. What's the group opinion on this? I believe I am learning a good deal from the answers I have been getting and perhaps should share.

Re: [mg-tabc] On group or off group conversations? Tom It seems to me that the raison d'etre of this group is the free sharing of knowledge about MGs. The most difficult problem is sorting it so as to be able to reference it at will, but it has to be there in front of you before you can do anything with it. There is much dialogue going on at the moment about whether or not you should pay to be in a club before you can receive such information. I can understand that some information has commercial and therefore financial value and will not be freely available (although I don't believe the world is necessarily a better place for that philosophy) but MG T types? Thank goodness for some of the generous MG experts who contribute to this list and other web sites who are unselfish when it comes to passing on knowledge. Incidentally, even the experts learn, when challenged by others who are less informed. I know this to be true having been a college lecturer for some 25 years! (btw, I am a member of 3 MG clubs) Tony TC9825

The whole point of a mailing list like MG-TABC is to make it possible for a large geographically scattered group to share information. If you ask a question on-list, but all the replies are off-list, then you are the only one who benefits. No information has been shared with the list. On the other hand, if you're just saying "Thank You" to those who answered your question, that can be done off-list. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. To all, Even if the information is of slight value, I think the conversations should be ON list. Just by watching the flow of these bits of info. I have been able to better understand several problems, and solve them with the TC even if I didn't join into the discussions. I would even go as far to say the "thank you" should be on list just to demonstrate we are a a civilized group. My best, Ben TC 4260
