Hi Bill,
I won't give you any crap! Was racing with a TC guy at Lime Rock 4 weeks ago
when he lost all steering and hit the tire wall! Busted something inside the
standard steering box. No fun. Busted front bumper, dented rad shell, dented
headlight, dented left front fender, broken front left spring, bent frame.
Driver AOK. All in all, he was lucky, could have been a lot worse.
OK, so I would like to see the detail differences for the MMM cars from
TA/TC. I already have Bill Bollendonk info. for TA installation. Can you
post the photos someplace? Maybe on T-ABC site as well as MMM site?
Thanks, Bob
I have installed a new VW steering box in my PA much like the one in Pip
Bucknell's as a direct result of driving and inspecting his. It gives the
advantage of brand new, very sturdy equipment with the concomitant
advantages
of safety and reliability... and it steers like a dream. Other than welding
a
plate on the frame there are no other changes or destruction of anything on
the car including original steering box attachment brackets. I used the
counsel and advice of Bill Bollendonk in his article on the same retrofit to
the TABC applications. I have pictures of my project showing how it differs
from the TABC installation, and will be happy to share them as long as
nobody
gives me any crap for my spin on saftey and reliability VS. originality.

Well yeah Ray, I sold that car to that guy but this is the first I ever
heard about any VW carb but I guess it worked okay 'cause he drove the
damn thing home.

Hi Bill, Bob, et al,
Anyone who would give somebody crap about making the TC safer, whether that
be adding directional lights, Alfin drums or Datsun/VW steering boxes, is
just a idiot. Plain and simple.
I assume that they would prefer a TC to be possibly lost forever or the
driver killed just so the car remains "original".
Oh well. Didn't make any events this year. Bob, maybe I'll see you in
Nova Scotia next year,
Dave Ahrendt
'46 TC #0524 with Datsun steering, better lighting, seat belts, Alfin
brakes, and, "Oh my God", an alternator!

That's - AN idiot Dave not, "a" idiot.
