Hey guys: I've been noticing some of you have 16" wheels on your TC's. Would it be the opinion of the membership that the ride and handling improve with the reduction of rolling radius and of course wider footprint? I am having on going trouble with new 19" wire wheels(purchased and fitted long enough ago to be out of warranty) Seems Nobody except British wire wheel has the knowledge to flatten/square them. . . And I just as soon not double the cost we invested in them. Now I have two sets of suspect wheels(the old ones and the New) Is there anyone in northern Ohio willing to help the "Old widow Lady' get her wheels straight? Sally Carroll

Whoops, British Wire Wheel doesn't do straightening anymore either.

Dayton Wire Wheel in Dayton can do them.

Sally I just removed my 19 inch rears for refurbishment and fitted a pair of 16s with 16x5.50 Avon tyres . The handling was improved to the extent that I shall leave them on. I have always liked the appearance of oversize tyres on the rear anyway. The downside is a reduction in roadspeed, about 3 to 4 mph at 3500 revs, but that is not really significant for normal road use. Regards Tony TC9825

I just read Clives' e-mail. The Avons I fitted were Tourists although 5.50.and not 6.00 and running at the usual 26 lbs, they have improved the steering, so......? Tony TC9825

Sally, Ride, handling and steering are all improved. The 16" wheels also allow you to run better quality tyres which further improve things. Plus they are stronger so one can punt the TC around wiht more confidence...... Murray Arundell Brisbane Australia

Rite way wire wheel in Walnut Creek California is excellent. The proprietor is Jose Cruz and is a very amiable fellow. He recently did mine and the car rolls perfectly. The phone number is 925-933-4046. This is a small one man shop so he doesn't always pick up the phone right away. Keep trying, it is worth it.

Hello Sally - roadholding and handling are streets better with 16" (the ride will never be improved unless you fit a TD front end!) and 6.00 x 16 just fit in the rear wings (but mine are original, maybe some repros will give a problem) and have nearly the same circumference as 4.50 x 19s. Like Clive, I used Avon Turbospeeds until all the tread wore off! Perhaps I never found the correct pressure, or maybe my front axle is bent - am just about to fit the one off the other car, or perhaps the toe-in is wrong. Strangly, the front nearside tyre always scrubs more than the off-side ocTagonally TCRoger Sally Carroll wrote:
