Fellow MG TABCers,

I have followed the myriad shock bushing installation stories with great
interest and amusement and have now received my rebuilt shocks back from
Apple Hydraulics. Vividly recalling the horror stories of bushing
installation, I was greatly relieved to find that new bushings had in fact
been installed as part of the rebuild process. So far so good.

I now am armed with the Moss installation kit (on Mr. Seim's recommendation)
and an extra pair of Moss bushings (courtesy of the Apple rebuild). Now for
the hard part. As I look at the shock links on my car (MGTC 5850 - see
attached picture) they do not appear to be the same as what is pictured in
the Moss catalog. Firstly, the upper portion which goes into the shock arm is
threaded with a nut (seems like a good idea). Secondly, the lower portion is
tapered from the outside to the inside and the new Moss bushing can be pushed
by hand into the center. This procedure would leave quite a bit of space on
either side. Surely this is not correct. Any ideas? Is this link appropriate
for some other car? Should I order replacement links from Moss? Help!

 Thanks.

Re: MG TC Shock Link
Doug,

The shock link you pictured is nothing like mine (front or rear). I
would expect it is a third party link or something. TC links have no
nut on one end like you have. The end of the pin should only stick
through the bushing by about 3/16" or so. Stays in place on its own
but I resorted to a washer and split pin to hold one on after it came
out several times. The end with the loop on it looks much too light
in your picture. Mine are much heavier and longer in length. Since
you live fairly close maybe I can take a spin over to show you what I
 have sometime. Let me know.

By the way, Apple may have put a bushing in the shock arm but you
need them in the links also. Save the ones you got from Moss so you
can have fun installing the bushings.
