Greasy spokes

Greetings, I'm getting axle oil on the spokes of a rear wheel. The oil seems to be coming from the grease nipple inside the splined hub. I don't really see any point in having a fitting to lubricate something that is obviously being well lubricated, or am I missing something. Looks like a plug in place of the fitting would be the solution. Your thoughts? Thanks, Bruce Woodson

Bruce No matter what I did, I always got that greasy residue through the spoke holes. I cleaned off the wheels and then put silicone on the back side of the spoke holes. This does nothing but reduce future spoke cleaning time. I believe the residue I get is from lubricating the splines of wheel vs hub.
