Can anyone tell me what alternative Fan Belts you can use on a TC?
Like, something on the British market shelf.
Incidentally, what is the spec for a TC? The length, depth and width etc?

 Regards.

Hi Chris, No one has responded to your query. About ten years ago I didn't like the length (slightly too long for my liking) of replacement fan belts because they required the dynamo to be pulled out quite far. I ended up finding a suitable belt (same cross section) at a local tractor and farm implement dealer, same place I found a great air filter to replace the "steel wool". As I recall it is made by the Gates Co., is green in color, and incorporates many more layers of textile, ostensibly to make it more heavy duty. It is used on industrial grade lawn mowers. My TC is some miles from my home, but if needed I will try to obtain the part number. Bottom line, don't limit yourself to auto parts. Cheers, Peter [quote] -----Original Message-----

Hi Whilst out checking the reduction box, also checked my recently replaced V-belt. That which I had previously bought from a local specialist MG parts supplier was too short - i.e. I could not get it over the pulley even with the gennie pulled in as far as possible (perhaps ultimately putting too much strain on the bearing too). A local belt and bearing specialist directed to an industrial belt supplier who sold me a "First Rope - B 37" V-belt used in industrial applications. As I was told it may not be as robust as those intended for automibile use, I bought three. The fit is perfect. En passant, the "genuine" part cost over ZAR126 (refunded fortunately), whereas the industrial variety cost ZAR15. ZAR 45 for three is quite a bargain I think. Joe Gates TC 8675

Re: [mg-tabc] Alternative Fan belts for a TC? Hello all - I replied as below to Chris Blood but stupidly forgot to cc the list, and of course others will want to know as well:

[quote]hi Chris - I bought some not long ago from a local agricultural suppliers, came in two days and cost about 6 quid. FYI the one on my TC is marked " B1 17 x 925 B 36 1/2 B 960 EL" which means it is a B-section belt, 17mm wide at the top, 925mm inner circumference (or possibly half-way up brom the bottom of the V) which corresponds to 36 1/2 inches, and 960mm is the outer circumference.

Let me know if you want one (are you going to silverstone?)
