SU carb bowl cover

Post by David and Joyce Edgar » Thu Jun 14, 2001 10:03 am

I had bought a set of 1 1/4" SU carbs that supposedly had been professionally rebuilt. I have them mounted on the TC and was setting the fuel level. As an initial setting I went with the bar under the float lever but on double checking via looking at the level in in the jets I got strange conflicts. Turns out I have two different bowl covers. The correct one (because it matches my old set of covers?) is marked with a 1161 on it and the wrong wrong one is marked with AUD 2283. The differnce being the wrong one has the float lever mounted so that it sits down into the bowl by an extra .100". The protrusions that the float lever pin goes through are longer. Anyone know what the 2283 might be off of in case I want to sell it? One other item the pro rebuilder did was to put TWO washers under one float needle seat and NONE under the other. I am debating over pulling the rest of the carbs apart to double check everything now. David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California

Well, There was a time when "professional" meant more than "charges you money" Clive ================================================== Message text written by David and Joyce Edgar

Dave the 2283 and 2284 covers are current replacement numbers for all the old P/N, to make them work you need AUD 2285 float fork, this has the pivot bent like the tines of a fork as opposed to being folded and having holes drilled in them. I have such an item for 3.50, 2283 is rear cover on XKE 4.2 liter. Float level is 7/16 Joe curto

Your second float cover is a replacement unit and was fitted with a different lever. Find the proper lever and you will be fine. Mike Goodman
