Brake Line Threads

I was in the garage tonight trying to connect the last of my brake lines. Unfortunately, I had some problems trying to thread the rear brake line fitting to the rubber hose..I obviously did not have the two lined up and I started to strip the threads. I want to pass a tap and die along the threads before going any farther. Could someone enlighten me as to the type size of threads used on the TC brake lines - metal brake lines bought from Moss (Moss has told me they get their brake pipes from Naylor Brothers) - Lougheed rubber brake lines.
It appears that the lines are not Whitworth threads - and none of my metric taps and dies seem to fit. It appears that the thread may be 1.25 but possibly a metric #10?
Thanks in advance. I am hauling my wife and three kids to the Holiday Inn in St. Pauls this July. Unfortunately, the TC will have to remain in my garage for this - she will still be in quite a few pieces I suspect.

TC brake line threads are 7/16 inch 20 or 7/16 National Fine. Weird, not metric, BSF or Whitworth.

Anybody know the origin of these threads on a TC?

Are you sure? I thought they were BSP (British Standard Pipe). I'll check when I get home. -- Chip Old 1948 M.G. TC TC6710 XPAG7430 NEMGTR #2271 Cub Hill, MD, USA 1962 Triumph TR4 CT3154LO CT3479E fold@bcpl.net

If not they certainly introduced hydraulic brakes to the American market some years before Morris started using them here in the UK. I assume the threads were chosen for the original market. They were first introduced on the TA and VA after the absorption of the MG Company by Morris in 1935. Kimber apparently didn't trust hydraulic brakes and objected to their use on "his" MG cars, only being forced to use them after the rationalization Cliff

Re: [mg-tabc] Brake Line Threads I think you may have gotten that backwards, Roger. WE were sitting around log fires, and drinking warm whiskey! Lockheed and Girling were old school chums, one of whom fell on hard times. The other took one look at the revolutionary ideas that old "Lock" had drawn up, and bankrolled the venture. The rest is -er- history.... Best, Ray McCrary "Speed is Life; of course Luck and Altitude are helpful, too."

You're right, they are 7/16 inch diameter and 20 TPI pitch. I wondered if that might by coincidence also be a British Standard Pipe thread form, but accordng to my British Standard thread form reference (which took a while to find, hence the slow reply), there is no 7/16 BSP. I guess it must be 7/17 UNF.

Oops! Typo. Make that "7/16"
