S.S. Badger

Greetings,
My wife & I are making plans to attend the big MG gathering in Minnesota. We
will be driving an MGA from Virginia, and thought a nice diversion would be
to cross Lake Michigan on a 4 hour ferry ride. Then I found out the name of
the ferry is "the S.S. Badger!"
Now I'm afraid we'll spend a lot of money, get tossed about a bit, told
exactly where our place was to stand, end up back where we started from, and
have some strange desire to paint our engine pink!
What should we do?

Well it could be worse, could be the SS Titanic.
I would say, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride! I'm sure the Cap is a
savvy guy who knows the ropes and will get ya where yer goin'.
And just what's so bad about a pink engine?

I would thoroughly inspect the ferryboat for rocks. They were often used on old ships for ballast, but The Badger always carries lots of extras for tools. I don't know about lifejackets. Austin

The ferry is great fun, the only problem being that YOU cannot drive the car onto the ferry, a crew member must do it, NO EXCEPTIONS. So if you can stand to see your car driven by some lout, it's worth the trip.

Hi Whitworth Heads, The SS Badger is a fine ship, last coal fired one making money I believe. Our club has used it several times. Each time they have allowed the driver/owners to load their own cars en mass. When they see steering wheels on the right they get less insistent I guess. Enjoy and good luck! Cheers, Peter PS: Do make time to visit the WWII sub and maritime museum when you disembark in Wisconsin. [quote] -----Original Message-----
