TC Pedal Shaft Modification
Somewhere, in some MG T-Type publication I have seen an engineering drawing
of a modified pedal shaft for a TC. It incorporated a drilled centre and
grease nipple to lubricate the pedal bushes. Can any one steer me to right
publication?

Re: TC Pedal Shaft Modification
mark,
How nice to hear from you!
I've installed the front spring bushes and everything went fine. My usual
machinist refused to do the drilling, but my sheet metal worker (who has a
lathe) was happy to do the work! One eye with the bush was slightly
distorted by the pressure of the spring, but once the pin was inserted, it
reassumed the proper shape. All in all a great success, - may thanks.
Actually I got 2 other responses to my pedal shaft query, both off list. It
seems that most listers are more interested in the weak humour of certain
showboaters than sharing information sharing. - A great pity, as I think that
serious contributors get reluctant to air their thoughts on list.
Re the pedal shaft, thanks for the useful input. I've gone a different
route. I designed a modification and had it delivered today, it looks
beautiful (though non original, of course). basically I went for a "set
screw" design. Essentially a 6" set screw with 1" of thread (.625" dia) on
the end. The head which is outside the chassis is 1/4" deep and tapped for a
5/16 BSF grease nipple. The head is not hex but 1" circular with 2 flats to
enable a 16mm spanner to hold it from rotating. My machinist came today ( a
closet car nut) and reamed out the central support. Putting it all together
was a joy compared with
fiddling around with split pins, flash lights, forceps, etc. "Better than
sex" I said when it all glided together. "I'm not sure about that" said the
machinist!
Many thanks for the encouragement, - I've set a new deadline for the "eternal
rebuild". Silverstone 2002. See you there??
