Swap meet parts

Post by Charles Hill » Sun May 06, 2001 5:58 pm

I picked up some TC parts at our local MG Swap meet last weekend. After I have had a chance to look them over, I have a couple of questions. I picked a spare front steering knuckle. Of course, I'll have to get it check for cracks before I use it. But now that I have a spare, I will probably never need one. Also, the very end of the thread is damaged. Can I clean it up with a triangular file? I also got a used TC thermostat that seems to work. At least it opens when you put in a pan of boiling water. Not sure if it opens enough, though. The blanking sleeve only seems to cover about 3/4 of the bypass when the thermostat opens. Does anyone know what the full travel on the thermostat should be from fully closed to fully open? I also bought an old distributor because it had the microadjuster on it. After some pentrating oil, it seems to be in pretty good shape. Only appears that advance weight return springs are shot. Even after cleaning up the advance mechanism so it moves freely, the weights don't return to the closed position on their own. Any leads on where to get some? Regards, Charles Hill

Charles, Moss and Abingdon both used to sell those weights for the distributor. Gene Gillam Saucier, MS 1949 TC 7872
