Since having my engine completely rebuilt I have been running it once or twice a month but not yet driving the car and putting it under load. I warm the engine up and run it static for about 15 mins with some time at 1000 rpm , some at 1500 and a little around 2000rpm then back to idle. At the higher RPM there are no noticeable oil leaks coming for anywhere on the engine. After running at the higher rpm and coming back to idle there is a steady ( one every 5-6sec ) drip from the hole at the back of the engine ( the one with the split pin sticking out ). On revving up the leak stops. Also after stopping the car the leak stops quite quickly. I realise that all xpags are meant to leak but this seems a lot and embarrassing if idling on the driveway of someone that you know! Short of pulling out the whole engine, does anyone have any experience of reducing the leak? Will it get better or worse as the car is run in? Yes Charles, thats too much oil. You have two ways to repair it: (In every case you have to remove the engine from the car) 1. Remove the sump and control the setup of the "slinger cap" and the condition of the thrower threads. Maybe there is dirt between the threads or the distance to the slinger cap is too large. See the TC-bible (TC forever), page 141. 2. Fit a modern lip seal. There are several types at the market. I have good results with the Australian kit from Bob Schapel. The Moss system brought some trouble to friends of me, it s not the best solution. There are other systems, too. But I don t know how they work. greetings lozi (TC3762)

Charles Before you take the engine out, just drop the sump and make #absolutely# certain that the cork strip that seals between the curved edge of the sump and the rear main bearing is in its correct place. If it twists out of line as you fit the sump there's a big gap and a correspondingly large oil flow. It happened to me! Regards Dave Dwyer J2, TA, TC
