TA Chassis, Rear Cross Member Trunnion Repair Kit

Dear Kimberites:
Thanks to Stewart Penfound's advice and photos, that were attached to his
email, we discovered that Sports & Vintage carries repair kits for the rear
spring trunnions located in the rear chassis cross member. We ordered and
received our kit which comes complete with R/H and L/H nuts and spacers. The
workmanship is excellent and the price, about 80 pounds sterling, seemed
reasonable to us for such an odd/low demand part.
Now that we have the new ends, can anyone tell us the process for measuring
where to cut off the old ones and how to install the new ones? The current
ones on our chassis have been "repaired" so we do not trust their placement
as any sort of guide. What is the correct distance as measured from the
chassis rail to the end of the tube holding the trunnions? Which side gets
which thread? Are the holes for the rear of the spring level to the ground or
slightly tilted, and if tilted how much? Isn't there a better way of cutting
off the old ends than using a hand held hack saw? Would a large pipe cutter
work?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Kindest regards,
Alan & Victoria Campbell
