I received the following email - and thought I'd pass it along. Subj: MG Ownership Message Date: 03/21/2001 8:14:44 AM Pacific Standard Time From: root@vouvray.ipl.co.uk (Superuser) To: FDShade@aol.com I have a 37 TA that took to long and cost to much to retore. I'm interested to putting it on the market, but I'm not sure of what a fair market value would be for a complete frame up retortion. Do you have any idea or could you direct me to someone that might? Ahh, the cost of a TA restoration!!!! I bought my '38 in Montreal in 1971 for $250 CAD. Seemed like a bargoon until I found out how many things were incorrect or needed major repair/replacement. I just last week received it back from the upholstery fitter and with that plus the paint job I figure I'm looking at CAD$56000 (about 25000GBP). This car (pics on the T-ABC gallery but not the latest) had parts from several post war cars, including front wing Rolls parking lights, had been t-boned at one time in its life, and was missing many many parts. If I were to sell it there would be a substantial shortfall but then I rationalize that the shortfall represents the cost of my hobby over the many years. I'm close to the finish on this 30 year (yes 30!!) restoration and hope to have it on the road in late June/early July (for Bob Grunau that's this year!!). Art FDShade@aol.com wrote:

After looking the cost analysis from Clive for a T series car and the final cost, I am astounded! I should take what is left in my stock portfolio and start looking for more T series cars and use them to retire on. At least with the car, I can take it out and enjoy it on a sunny day. From Colorado, a sunny 68 F, no wind and all the snow has melted...time to drive and enjoy! Ben Cordsen, TC 4260

The basic equation used by professional restorers - eg Naylor Restorations eg, is that the basic car - complete and derelict but ALL THERE is a cost of up to 5000 UK pounds, An almost bare chassis is 1500 UKPounds from a certain a UK source. Then 20,000 UKPounds parts and 20,000 UKPounds labour. 1 UK Pound = 1.424 USDollars today. A$64,000USD T-type? Can I have the name of some of the clients? :) Bill Harkins Fallbrook, CA Your use of Yahoo! Groups is subject to http://docs.yahoo.com/info/terms/

Ah yes, but what about the cost of a golf club membership over all these years? Probably cost more and even more frustrations hitting that little white ball about!! I think you are better off with the TA. Bob G. I'm close to the finish on this 30 year (yes 30!!) restoration and hope to have it on the road in late June/early July (for Bob Grunau that's this year!!). Now if I were a betting man, I would be prepared to wager a small amount, perhaps a few bottles of Old Speckled Hen, against a July, 2001 completion date ( if for no other reason than to egg you on ). Following received from Peter Perry email -> pperry444@juno.com For Sale 1936 MG TA Chassis# TA-0287 Engine #MPJG-538 This is a very low production # wide fuel tank car with early style rear fenders that lack the typical ridges found on later T series cars. This chassis # TA- 0287 was the 36th T-Series ever produced. The body was redone in the mid 80's. The wood has been all replaced and there no structural or rust issues whatsoever. The fenders are straight with no signs of bodywork, fill or any previous collisions. The paint is very presentable and was presumably done sometime in the mid 80 s. The chassis firewall and undercarriage have been professionally refinished in gloss urethane black. Most recent work cost nearly $4000 in parts alone, including new master cylinder and wheel cylinders made from brass and supplied by Abington Spares. The generator and original voltage regulator has been rebuilt and upgraded with diode circuits. The Motor had been rebuilt in the mid 1980's and has few miles since. It produces very good oil pressure and purrs overall. The original carburetors have also recently been rebuilt. A rare chance to own and enjoy a piece of our motoring heritage! Proudly offered at $32685.00 US Pictures can be seen at _www.sportscarsbypeterperry.photosite.com_ (http://www.sportscarsbypeterperry.photosite.com) Peter Perry pperry444@juno.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

I just heard of a 1938 TA for sale in the Naples, Florida USA area. Supposed to be in very good condition, around $39,000 is asking. Anybody know anything about this? Tom Wilson Indianapolis, IN 46217 TWilson@motionwear.com [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
