Report from our "shaken members"
A 6.8 earthquake shook the State of Washington a few days ago. Several T-ABC
members live there. Here are their remarks:

Since it was 30 miles deep and only lasted about 30 seconds, the damage is
centered in the epicenter at Olympia, it appears that only OLD building had
brick walls fall down. We had just exited the ferry* and were sitting at a
light when it struck....I thought that the cars idle was a little irratic..
At the Boeing Everett plant, all the employes were standing outside, enjoying
the sun. We had to sit sat in Costco's parking lot for 15 minutes before we
could enter the store. Returning home, we discovered that 2 books had fallen
over on the bookshelf , 1 little wooden doll had fallen and a cabinet door
was ajar. I told Kate that the worst place to be in an earthquake up
here.....is the Hospital. The local news reports that all nine injured
people were at the hospital.

I'd just finished driving the TC around the neighborhood and found that I had
definite miss in # 3 cylinder. I pulled into the garage next to the TF 1500
and turned off the ignition. I started the TF at 1500 rpm. As I stood looking
at the TF[carb side] the sound of the engine got louder. I turned toward the
TC and it was shaking. I thought for a second that the TC's engine had
started by its self. Then I realized after seeing the whole garage doing an
exaggerated rock and roll.

This was my first one and the building has stopped shaking but I haven't. The
local news says it was a 6.2 centered SW of Seattle. No major damage in this
area - hope Seattle is OK. We moved here from the Midwest several years ago
and I think I like the tornadoes better - you know they are coming. I guess
that now that I'm a earthquake veteran, I'm ready to live in California

We're fine here both at work and at home, thank God. I cannot say the same
for the Renton Boeing plant. I heard from a friend who works there that the
plant is closed due to structural damage to both the office and manufacturing
buildings. The building date from the late 30s and some of the office
building which have damage predate the '65 quake during which they settled a
foot, so I'm told. The extent has not been broadcast yet nor have the
buildings all been inspected. I went throught the San Silmar quake when I
lived in Long Beach in Feb 9, '71 and this was more violent than it. There
was a real up and down motion after the initial swaying stopped or may be it
was just because this building is located on Fill!!
=== GLAD TO HEAR THAT EVERYONE CAME THROUGH OK
