Oil pan baffles

In the oil pan of my TC engine are two metal plates covering the deep section of the sump. One piece is bolted to the pan over the front part of the deep section. A second plate covers the remainer of the deep section with a large hole in the middle for the oil pickup. I recently bought a second engine for my TC and have noticed the pan only has the one plate covering the front portion and the back half is left uncovered. Is the second plate necessary? Was there a production change or should I figure the second plate get lost over the years? David Edgar, TC 5108 La Mesa, California

David: The second baffle was probably added for racing application, too keep the oil from splashing about. It did not come from the factory that way. Skip............. At 07:07 PM 2/9/01, David and Joyce Edgar wrote:
