Ye Olde TB Front Axle

Post by Ray McCrary » Fri Feb 09, 2001 12:59 pm

Hello all, Disassembling the TB front axle has the serial number for the axle facing the rear of the car. Correct? Did this car have the caster shims installed from the factory? Were they the same as the TC, if it did? Does anyone need a pair of new front axle bump stops for the TC? I have two; the TB is different, and so I have no use for them. No. The castor shim was introduced at TC/4251. Fitting wedges under the axles was a common garage practice to correct "heavy" steering and is mentioned in several old Auto Engineering books. Have you checked that you have the TB springs which were different rate from TA and had no rebound leaves fitted? Blower gives dimensioned drawings and rates. I'm not sure about the axle number as mine (late TA) didn't seem to have a number on the forging. TCs are supposed to have a number that faces backwards. Regards Cliff
