I was greasing up the car yesterday and try as I might I could not find the
grease nipple for the rear bearing.
All the manuals say that it should be behind the hub cap ( I assume that
means the wheel knock on ) , but all I find there is a large nut with a
split pin.
I had the rear axle totally rebuilt in Australia some years ago. Could it
be that some sort of mod was done so that I dont have to lube this up?
There is a small hole in the nut but it does not look large enough to take
a nipple.
Also I cannot find a nipple at the rear of the drive shaft. Again this was
rebuilt in Oz. the front one is where it should be but no rear. I assume
that this has some sort of new sealed joint?
Finally the brown book says that the front wheel bearing should be " packed
" with grease. does this mean " wack the grease in and then put on the
wheel spinner?
Or is it more technical than that?
