Terry, I just purchesed a load of T serries parts inc, some TA parts.. There are a set of new slide assy,s inc boots for the rear springs. There is also two TA engine and transmisions. One is very complete , starter, generator and air filter assy with a new black filter assy. The other engine is missing the push rods, generator and water pump, but does have the air filter assy, also with a new can...I would like to get $2000.00 for both engines. There is also a TC engine that I rebuilt that has never been run. IT is complete inc clutch, water pump, oil filter and lines. I would like to get $3500.00 fo it. Mike Goodman

Question: What is the difference between the TC starter and the TA/TB starter? How can I tell if I have the correct TB starter? Best, Ray McCrary "Speed is Life; of course Luck and Altitude are helpful, too."

Hi Ray and all, The TB starter is virtually identical to the TC unlike the TA which is different. These were dated. Mine ironicaly says 3 9 this refers to March of 1939. I have seen TB's with 4 9 which would be April of 39 etc. The TC's were dated too but the the lettering is slightly different etc. Cheers, John and Crystal TB#0398

I thought TB and TC were common starters, and TA the odd one. The MG TA/TB Service Parts book gives MG Part no A1164 for the TA starter and A1206 for the TB. The difference is the drive end bracket which is A962/2 for TA and A1171/1 for TB, all other parts including the switch being the same. Perhaps someone can check the TC parts list to see if it has the same MG part numbers for starter and drive end bracket as the TB. There is some confusion amongst the usual printed sources on this one. Clausanger says TA and TB starter should be a Lucas M418A84 and a TC should be M418G. Chris Harvey contradicts this by saying the TA starter won't fit the XPAG. Although not a complete answer I hope this is a start. Cliff

According to my copy of the TC parts list, the TC has the same starter (A1206) and drive end bracket (A1171/1) as are cited by Cliff Knight for the TB Regards, Carl Fritz

Cliff and all, We regret that Clausanger has caused confusion on a number of TB issues, the starter being one. Yes the TB and TC have the same starter, apart from the dates and style of numbers stamped on them they are identical....the TA used a different part. Regards, John and Crystal TB#0398
