Rally report Part II

Post by Peter Pleitner » Tue Jan 23, 2001 6:13 am

Hi Whitworth Heads, In response to your considerable interest, here is a link to the organizer's "official" daily reports: www.carnet.co.uk/rallyoffice. Click on Winter Challenge 2001. Also, I got my ten rolls of photos processed. Included are two of the TC, including a slightly out of focus shot of the TC's dashboard to illustrate what it takes. If a few of you are interested in these, contact me off-list, and I'll scan and send. Finally, the organizers have planned and scheduled their Marathon rally for this coming September, with a focus on the Dolomite Mountains, including supposedly less challenging time constraints on regularity section, and more opportunities for socializing. This venue, including Cortina, takes them back to the venue of their first events, the Pirelli Marathon. Its described on the same web site. Wish I could participate, but revenue producing work prevents this. Still I'd advise a serious look for any of you interested. A standard rear axel ratio is definitely advised however. BTW, you might be able to recruit Brian Rainbow (of our list) to navigate for you. Then you'd have a good chance placing respectably by not getting lost. He retired from professional navigating but is as sharp as a tack and a joy to be with. I enjoyed the great pleasure of his company with Ian Hughes (his former professional driver) several times during our challenges. They volunteered their time and expertise as course marshals for the Winter Challenge. Cheers, Peter
