Group, On a saturday night when I didn't have a date, sometime in 1956, a friend who also had a tTC and didn't have a date decided to make dashboards out of Formica. Ol' 5122 still has her wonder-plastic dash of some photo process wood grain. I think it is about time to cover it with the red leatherette that came with my reupholster kit from Moss. I can get rid of the plastic laminate (It has held up way too well.) and empty the box the leather for the seats & leatherette for the doors etc. came in. Did I just make a New Years resolution? Ol' 5122 & I Hope all your MG related resolutions get done in 2014, Dan Harmer "48 TC (with a plastic dashboard) San Diego

Jim,   Just to add to that, The TA and TB also had a walnut facia.  It was a single straight grained board and was NOT  a left/right matched pair as often found on furniture, NIETHER was it Burr walnut, which is sometimes seen, looks nice, but is totally wrong for the T Type.   The walnut too was English / European walnut which has a different grain texture and colour to the now commonly available American Black Walnut, though the "black" refers to the colour of the American walnut's bark, not the underlying timber.   Correct wide well grained European walnut veneer seems increasingly hard to get today.   Best Regards   Clive Oxford, UK = =================================

My California car (TC 6864) has a formica dashboard. It's not going to win any prizes, but its "bulletproof." I wonder if it was made by your friend on that Saturday night.

Norman, I don't know the chassis number or anything else, but in 1956 it was red. The Formica was a grey driftwood colo(u)r. Due to the bulletproofness of the product it it probably still is.  The 1956 owner  is still a good friend, and would love to know his old TC is alive & loved.Let me know if your dash is gray. Clive,    On page 12 of Chris Harvey's "The Immortal T Series" it shows a factory photo of a TA dashboard. It sure looks like the  veneer is bookmatched  to me. IMHO, its hard to say that all TAs, TBs or TCs were all one piece or all bookmatched. Most TCs were bookmatched but I have seen a few original one piece veneer facia panels.

I bought a TA dashboard from NTG Services years ago and it was one long piece of walnut veneer. If and when my TA ever becomes driveable, I'm sure it will be of "rat rod" quality, and may have a Polished Diamond Plate Tread Brite aluminum sheet cut to size with custom instruments! I think it, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Dennis Nelson Manassas, VA

Hi Craig,   It does indeed look bookmatched, and so does the TC one a few pages later.    I have to say I've never consciously seen a matched dash, though have often wondered why not as it would look a lot better, and looking at the various old TA TB and TC dashes I have, none were matched.   I wonder if simply  some were some were not.   Another MG T Ambiguity perhaps?   Thanks for spotting that one.   Clive = =======================

I am so used to seeing rexine-covered dash panels with the bronze colored instrument cluster that it struck me as odd that this car had a black instrument cluster.  Does the collective "we" know if rexine with a black cluster was a common occurrence?
I recall driving my TC on New Years Day in 2000.  Not this year.  Going on 4" of snow and counting.  Happy New Year to all.

George,
The TC facia panel changed from walnut veneer to fabric covered around
chassis #4800. The dashboard is correct.
