Master cylinder heat shield

Post by Neil Hewitson » Thu Aug 17, 2017 11:21 am

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and comments to my recent question about the m/c heat shield. General opinion was go with a heat shield which is good enough for me. Neil Sent from my iPad

Good evening MGers

I have had the master cylinder on and off a couple of times this week due to a faulty rebuild by a supplier. In doing so I started to wonder if the heat shield is of any real use. It might be more effective to wrap the exhaust pipe adjacent to the MC and dispense with it.

Any thoughts?

It is important. I wrapped the inside of the sheild with heat reflective material.

Both methods are effective.  For extra protection, add the wrap.  I am curious what problem are you trying to solve with the MC?Tim BloomfieldTB0613Yukon Canada currently Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android

I have never had one on my TC. I have run it hard for many years without issue, so I will leave it as it is. GrahamTC 3107Buckingham ( scorchio) Sent from my iPad

The danger is boiling the brake fluid in the m/c from the heat of the exhaust.

Maybe it is significant that I am using silicone fluid, which has a higher wet and dry boiling point?Cheers Norman, Graham Sent from my iPad

Thanks for all your thoughts. I have decided to go with -

No heat shield

Wrap the exhaust and

Silicone brake fluid
