Len, you wrote to me personally but I'm replying to the list. The whole
idea of a mailing list like MG-TABC is to share information among all
members.

I don't think anyone knows for certain that after the introduction of the
TC/EXU all TCs exported to the US were EXUs. However I'd say that your
non-EXU 1949 with the "Made In England" plate probably was intended for
some other market, possibly Canada since that's where you are.

Do you know anything about the car's history? That's the best clue. Cars
intended for export often had equipment that differed from Home Model
equipment to suit the motor vehicle regulations in the intended market
(lighting, and KPH speedometers, for example). Trouble is, even if if
your car was originally sold in France (yellow headlamps, KPH speedo), if
it has been in Canada or the US for many years, chances are good that the
country-specific equipment has been replaced by equipment more suitable
for the US or Canada. Unless the car has not been altered in any way
since it left the factory, how it is equipped 50 years later isn't a very
good way to determine what market it was originally intended for.

The acquisition of the car is the culmination of an extensive three year
search, and an over forty year dream . Every since reading the book by Don
Stanford "The Red Car " as a young teenager in Junior High School have been
in lust for a RED TC !

I have owned and restored several, modern (?) MG"B"'s, and drive them
extensively, averaging well over10,000 mi./ yr.. Including one trip a few
years back, around the whole USA, totalling 9,903, with my wife and I camping
out of the "B". This in a car I rescued from a "junk" yard and restored.

I plan on driving the "T" a great deal as well, although maybe not on such
long adventures. I work in a Vintage race car preparation shop, so there is
not much mechanical I am afraid to tackle.

Au contraire, must disagree. When I see it, I know exactly what to expect:

Fred, methinks these are not stone guards but rather proto-type contact
lenses developed for flies and other insects - see the various segments to
accomodate compound vision - as without them they lose their way, only to
mess up headlamp lenses, windscreens, and the like!
