seatbelts

Re:To be fair, since the introduction of seat belts, cars have also become faster and far more numerous every year. But yes, driver skill has steadily dropped as technology dumbs down automobiles. It's frightening what I see people doing while driving down the road these days. I've been hit a couple times by inattentive drivers (rear-ended), but have never caused an accident so I must be doing something right. The mobile phone is always put away when I'm driving. Not that I could hear it anyway, as I drive an MG every day! -----------------In defence of modern drivers we have to remember that they are not really driving.  Instead they are partaking in a lifestyle.  Driving for them is just an extension of what they do when they are not in the car.  Advertisers have realised that they will not sell as many cars if they actually tell you what they are and instead portray driving as something which exists in the head rather than on the street.  If the adverts are to be believed driving is more akin to a videogame than anything real.  How else would we convince otherwise sensible people to drive around with their by headlights on when the sun is shining!Ian Thomson
