Whenever we get into color discussions, there is always a difference of opinions. I have three prewar cars with darker brown badges. I posted the note from Sports and Vintage about the lack of agreement by experts in the UK. I will note that I acquired my TC in the late 70 s and my badge is lighter, similar but not quite as orange as Duncan s. I also believe that age and sunlight have an effect on color. I also think like paint batches, especially years ago, varied from batch to batch. Surely MG didn t order one batch of badges in 1929, which lasted to 1952. So probably all the variations might be correct. I am sure that my 47 TC badge is not original as I replaced it back then, probably from Moss. A lot more than color is wrong with the currently available Moss badge. There is no close up pic for the Sports and Vintage badge, but it appears to be a faithful copy. Moss offering is wrong in so many ways. http://www.sportsandvintage.co.uk/gifts.htm

England s air has changed radically. When our cars were made and before, coal was the main fuel for homes. Ever hear of London Fog? The conversion to electric and banning of coal for heat changed the air. So the air in the U.K. did change.

I did hear of a little old lady in a rather hot climate where she needed some work done on her old car.Instructions were not to change the water in the radiator as it was the original water from England and thus would have been much colder thus improving the cooling of her precious car!CheersMark

Perhaps, but the coal dust wasn't factory specification. Global atmosphere, same air everywhere and same air the dinosaurs were breathing. Unless they had a custom mix of gasses, I still say no originality points off!

Re: Grill shell medallion
A number of years ago a friend who like to play little jokes on his wife, was working away from home and he called his wife and said due to the length of time he was away, before he got back she needed to take the car to the garage and ask them to change the air in the tyres which she of course did much to the amusement of their local garage!Mike

I did hear of a little old lady in a rather hot climate where she needed some work done on her old car.Instructions were not to change the water in the radiator as it was the original water from England and thus would have been much colder thus improving the cooling of her precious car!CheersMark

The following is from Sports and Vintage UK, the largest and oldest firm supplying prewar MG Parts. We have seen original badges on pre war cars of both light and darker brown on cream, we decided to produce a large batch of 100 of each type! So now we can offer both colours at the market leading value price of 28 each We know opinion is divided on which looks better and indeed which is correct , in fact at Stoneleigh show 2 eminent MMM owners offered completely different `opinion as to which was correct for their J2 . They each bought a different badge! The picture really doesn`t do these badges justice, the enamel is the best we have ever seen ! So please specify light or dark brown on cream badge when ordering. If you go to their web site and click on chrome and badges , both are illustrated. Yes the lighter is more amber, the darker more brown. So, like the great debate on the color of early TC fire walls,(please let s not get into it again) There is no agreement on the exact brown in the medallion. I prefer the dark brown because I like the look. It is not really orange as Roger said, but it is surely not brown either. Orange is a closer description than brown. Not sure what the best description of the color is. Note the dimples. Second pic of G is without flash, and a bit darker that what is actually there. Spare tire spinner MG logo also original and identical in color...Duncan-TC9866 On Saturday, August 11, 2018, 8:09:14 AM PDT, 'Jean Vignau' jeanvignau@orange.fr [mg-tabc] mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote: I have always heard that MG colours were bread and butter, as TB0592 s badge is. Re: Grill shell medallion
I know it's roughly the same air then as now, but it's the ORIGINALITY and the PATINA that means so much !

When our cars were made and before, coal was the main fuel for homes. Ever hear of London Fog? The conversion to electric and banning of coal for heat changed the air. So the air in the U.K. did change.
