Ed- ARP guarantees a "minimum tensile strength" and that is all they will tell you. Oh snap! Better than the hardware store. Galling will get you every time in the application you mention, once you get enough hours at full operating temp. If your hot rod engine was designed to use SS ARP hardware, I would not recommend anything but. Duncan --------------------------------------------

Use for the rocker cover also just because I like the look. Ed In a message dated 11/25/2017 5:51:12 P.M. The bolts holding the headers on are not high stress. I am sure grade 5 would work find. Never had gailing issues and the motors have many hours at full operating temp time being a full race motor.  But then as a full race motor the head comes off every 3 races to be redone so many gailing just doesn't have a chance to get going.   Ed   In a message dated 11/26/2017 12:32:02 A.M. Galling issued can be resolved with appropriate assembly lubes or locating plated s/s fasteners, usually silver plated.
