Hello group,

Thinking about tackling the long-overdue petrol tank repair -
usual story; perforation city, Arizona! So.....in the spirit of
attempting to do everything right, can anyone please shed any
light on the differences (if any) between American and Imperial
sheet metal thicknesses? Having a measuring gauge for each, the
differences appear to be considerable. BUT a chum who is
something in metal says that the innacurate manufacturing
tolerances will result in variations anyway. I know that Frost
in the UK sell sheet metal but just to add to the confusion their
thicknesses are metric. Any thoughts, please?

Regards, David Lodge

Subject: FW: Re: TCs Roaming the Roads

I have a question about information on TCs provided at the T register site
(www.mgcars.org.uk/mgcct/) that some of you may be able to answer. The site
says, "In production from September 1945 to November 1949, exactly 10,000
TCs were produced, all carrying two-seat sports bodywork, although there is
a rumour that one was re-bodied as a Tickford." I've seen the number 10,000
a number of times, but I've also seen the number 10,002. Which is correct?
Also, what about that rumour of the Tickford? Is it true? Is there perhaps
a relationship between the rumoured Tickford and the 2-car discrepancy in
the numbers?

Larry,
I believe that most of the production numbers for our cars started at #251
(part of Abingdon's phone #). That would put the last TC produced at 10250.
I can personally attest to some of this as being true as I own TC10217 which
was produced on November 24th 1949 in the last week of production. In
addition, I would guess if there was a rebodied Tickford out there, it would
draw it's number from one in the production line.

TC 4284
When the subject came up about Clipper Blue I sent a response which may have
been lost in cyberspace,I bought TC 4284 (with TC 9228 as spares) on 12
October 1968 for $300.00 (35 years ago on Sunday) .The GURU Robert Gibson
towed it home with me behind the wheel ,18 months later it was back on the
road painted clipper blue , the color was matched from a footplate from an
original clipper blue car. The color was selected due to the fact that Bob
Gibson had Cream/green Jeff Newey had Green/? ,Reddo had Green also and I
did not want Red or Black Plus the only decent job done on the car before I
bought it was the new vinyl seats in Beige. The car was Manufactured late
1947 and arrived in OZ on 29/4/1948 on the ship SS Stafford, then a
Cream/Green car,It was delivered to Cessnock (a mining town near Newcastle
)on 20/8/1948, 8 months after it was built,It took me 10 years to track down
the original owner (Bill Myers ) as the car never went through the dealers
books as it was bought with income from SP betting,(illegal betting on
horses) It was registered AY 360.in NSW.Bill told me that he kept the car
for a couple of years before he traded it in on a MGY at P&R Williams and
was owned by Moss Williamson. No history of the car is known from then until
I bought it in 1968.The car is nearly finished after a major rebuild and
will now be Mazda Neo Green /Beige a color slightly lighter than BRG I have
photos of the car when it was brand new. At one stage the chassis has been
strongly reinforced over the front springs and rumor has it that it was once
strongly campaigned around the hillclime/racing circuits of the time.

Dear Sir David;
Phil does good work, as I know from personal experience
with my complete brake system.
Great story from Murray about him showing up on NTG's
door step all the way from OZ. Priceless!

Mine are not quite so exotic.

Traded a super 64 B (MK I) for new 69 B off the show room floor....the
last one in the region.......4 months later was offered a TA for
$1150.....said no because I did not have clue on how to get parts.
