Yes, but I didn't say "TC/EXUs". I said "cars built for export". On Sat, 30 Apr 2005 16:28 -0700, fnitz wrote to 'MG-TABC':

Fred, You are correct. 7380 is generally accepted as the first EXU. There were export cars before then, but their specifications weren't that much different from home models as previous posts have indicated. I read that there were around 2000 TCs exported to the US during TC production. Only 495 EXUs were produced so the rest would have been general export models. BTW, I recall seeing pictures of a car exported to the continent with a kph speedometer. Regards, Charles Hill fnitz wrote:

Thanks. I know for a fact that TC1353 was a HOME model. It was brought to the States by a US Air Force officer. However it does not have the thirties light, so I suspect it was modified somewhere along the way. I do know it got a "frame off" in England before it was brought over. I have the photos. 30 light

Post by Terry Horlick » Thu Feb 09, 2006 9:58 pm

A while ago we were discussing the 30 light. I have obtained one from a fellow lister and have it all installed. I had a devil of a time getting it to work right but finally narrowed it down to shorts on the mounting stud (not the one connecting to the contacts), then a short of the bracket to the speedo cable. I finally milled away a bit more of the bracket and insulated the mounting stud. I now get the 30 light on at about 18 mph and off at about 27 mph. So I guess I now have that "irritaing light blinking at me". You know, I really like having that stupid thing there doing what the factory intended (TC2285 is a home model). I have another way to judge my speed when the tonneau cover is up on the passenger side now... if I can't see the road or hear the engine, tranny or wind! It's just another fun part of TCing... If I ever get tired of it I just have to twist the thing and it stops doing it's thing. WAY COOL! http://pages.sbcglobal.net/thorlick/MG/30light.jpg Terry TC2285

Is there a way to "tune" when the light comes on? It might be handy to set it to light at a certain RPM in top gear to help prevent running the engine too fast for too long. On the highway I have this problem. You know... "just a couple more MPH won't hurt!" - Steve S, TC8975, LA, CA -

Steve & Group, The light can be "tuned" as I have done this before. I would need to know at what MPH mark you would want the light to come on. Craig Seabrook Whitworth Shop Novelty, Ohio TC/0911

Steve, The contacts are in the Speedometer so you can't set it for a certain RPM. You can paint a red line on the tach if you need a warning about max rpm. If you need an idiot light or buzzer to warn you about max rpm it should be easy to fashion a simple circuit to put on the generator output to do that. But isn't the engine already set to do that by throwhing a rod when you get too careless? Terry

I didn't word my message very well, I actually meant to set it for a certain speed, which would also act as a warning for RPM in top gear. - Steve S, TC8975, LA, CA -
