AW: [mg-tabc] Bell Housing Nut Size
Hi Chip Hellie,
We are talking about a bolt with 32mm length ad a diameter
of 8mm having (a pitch of )one thread for one mm. In English we say so many
threads per inch, what we understand by pitch. In Europe we consider the
advance of the thread by one rotation. It is in this case one mm. Things are
easier if we stay only with mm (metric).
Another point where I get confused is about miles/gallon. In metric we say
how many litter of fuel one car need to cover 100 kM. So can see that in the
sales prospect. With the MG TC we can say it need about 10 litter petrol to
cover a distance of 100 kM.
So we people are different. we think different. We eat different. But we
all drive MG-T A, B or C.
Madhu

Hi,
I don't think the bolts are really 8X1.0mm are they? I
think that would be a bolt 8mm dia. with a length of
1mm which is about 2 threads? I assume you're talking
threads per inch, 1.0 as apposed to 1.25 or 1.50,
right?

Chip - almost right. Metric bolts are measured in thread pitch. If you
think in inches, a 8X1mm bolt would have 25.4 threads per inch

Chip Metric bolts use "Pitch" as opposed to threads per inch (corase or fine)
and there appear to be 3 pitches 1.0, 1.25 and 1.5 finest, fine, coarse.

Re: Bell Housing Nut Size
They get coarser than 1.5 pitch (1.75, 2.0, 2.5, etc) at larger diameters
(M12 to M20 for instance).

Hi Madhu,
I'm just use to buying metric bolts for my Roadracing
Yamaha's and when you buy a screw or bolt for them the
first number (8) is thread diameter, the second number
(1) is the length. Then you need to know the
pitch.(1.5) or whatever. I guess old MG's use a
different system than the Japanese.

Re: AW: [mg-tabc] Bell Housing Nut Size
Maybe so. A typical metric bolt specification would be M8 x 1.25 x 30 for
8mm dia, 1.25 mm pitch, 30 mm long.
