Abingdon Spares parts numbers are still good. They still have boxes, that they used to box this kit. They no longer assemble the kit for you. John Seim

HiI probably carry far more spares than I need, but of the one I carry that I or a friend has used are Cylinder head gasket (& manifold gaskets)Rotor armSpark plugsFuel pump pointsOilLengths if electrical wire & insulation tapeGardening wire (secure a loose exhaust)Length of bowden cable2 Half shafts one of which was needed by a friend one time at Le Mans, unfortunately a previous owner had welded the half shaft into the hub so what should have been a 15 min job took all day grinding the weld off which also resulted in needing a further new half shaft and hub when he got home (worth checking your hubs). On another occasion, we arrived at a hotel to find by chance another guest had arrived 2 days earlier in his TC and had also broken a half shaft, however he was unable to take up my offer of a spare as by then the car was on its way back to the UK on a recovery truck. A TC owner who used his car as daily transport once told me one of the most useful items he had found to keep in his car was cable ties, which he had even used as a throttle cable on one occasion, he did also say though that despite how many spares you carry, the one Item you will often find you need, is the one item you don't have!RegardsMikeTB0457

Attachments :If you still have the old brass floats in your carbs, then alsoinclude a spare float.  Friend of mine with a J2 saved me a lotof bother by producing a spare when mine sunk, a long wayfrom home.  ( I know a J2s is smaller, but still works OK ).Also only one hub and halfshaft would work if tightened and wrapped around the spokes with rope .  Sorry to all those thatflinched when they read that, but it would get you home, and would save carrying two !Dave White TC

Dave - a better idea was "invented" by David Washbourne, now sadly passed away, who took me on many high-speed runs (easy 90mph) in his unrestored black SA saloon. He carried one spare hub, shaft and spinner, which had an ear drilled for a bolt which went between two spokes. I don't know if he ever had to use it, but the idea was sound. Bob and Lynne Douglas, on their various trips around the world in a TC, equiped with my taper-fit shafts and hubs, nevertheless carried two spares, strapped to the radiator supports. They did not need them on the Barnsley to Bejing (and beyond) trip (via the Gobi desert). ocTagonally Roger

Smart idea that: the drilled and tapped ear! I remember Bob& Lynn had a web-site blog during their trip up from South America, but can't find the link.  Did they post their adventures on the trip back to New Zealand? - Mike Hughes  - -  '37 TA 0512 On Wednesday, October 17, 2018 2:48 PM, "Roger Furneaux roger.46tc@gmail.com [mg-tabc]" mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote:   Dave - a better idea was "invented" by David Washbourne, now sadly passed away, who took me on many high-speed runs (easy 90mph) in his unrestored black SA saloon. Roger Furneaux et al,
I am probably not being very bright here, but my half shaft broke a few inches inboard of the hub, and I thought that is where they usually go.  So - what is the point of fixing an ear of the spinner to the spokes when the hub and wheel are already a rigid unit?
Thanks. . . . . . .

I puzzled over that too, but realized that anchoring the spinner to the wheel by the spokes prevented the spinner from unwinding if it was not on the correct side.  This avoids having to carry one half shaft and hub for each side.   Richard Fritz, TC6649, Colorado   From: rogerbateman@rocketmail.com [mg-tabc] Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2018 9:24 AM To: mg-tabc@yahoogroups.com Subject: Re: [mg-tabc] Spares List?   Roger Furneaux et al, I am probably not being very bright here, but my half shaft broke a few inches inboard of the hub, and I thought that is where they usually go.  So - what is the point of fixing an ear of the spinner to the spokes when the hub and wheel are already a rigid unit? Roger - it's all to do with the threads: spinners are self-tightening when on the correct side, but if you carry only one hub & shaft abd have to fit it to the "wrong" side, the spinner will come off, quickly followed by the wheel...

hi Mike - their blog was on www.tcthewanderer.com but this does not appear to be active. I said to Lynne at the time that she should publish a book, which would surely sell well, and sit alongide "Drive them till the roads weasr out" by Harry & Deirdre Pyle on the bookshelf. Roger

Bob and Lynne Douglas, on their various trips around the world in a TC, equiped with my taper-fit shafts and hubs, nevertheless carried two spares, strapped to the radiator supports. They did not need them on the Barnsley to Bejing (and beyond) trip (via the Gobi desert). ocTagonally Roger On Wed, Oct 17, 2018 at 7:15 PM DG WHITE dg573@btinternet.com [mg-tabc] mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote: If you still have the old brass floats in your carbs, then alsoinclude a spare float. On another occasion, we arrived at a hotel to find by chance another guest had arrived 2 days earlier in his TC and had also broken a half shaft, however he was unable to take up my offer of a spare as by then the car was on its way back to the UK on a recovery truck. A TC owner who used his car as daily transport once told me one of the most useful items he had found to keep in his car was cable ties, which he had even used as a throttle cable on one occasion, he did also say though that despite how many spares you carry, the one Item you will often find you need, is the one item you don't have!RegardsMikeTB0457 On Thursday, 11 October 2018, 14:56:44 CEST, 'Dave Ahrendt' dave@dkahrendt.net [mg-tabc] mg-tabc-noreply@yahoogroups.com> wrote: At one time Gerry Goguen of Abingdon Spares offered an emergency kit for TCs.
